Josh sings his way to Open Mic UK Grand Final!

Josh Whittaker (LIPA 4:19 Liverpool) has reached the national grand final of Open Mic UK, after beating off competition in the under 16 category of the North West England & Scotland area final at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester in December. The sell-out event saw 29 acts whittled down to five, who will now battle it out against area finalists from across the UK to be crowned the overall winner of Open Mic UK, “the biggest search for unsigned acts in the UK.”

Once again, Josh impressed the industry judges, with a rapturously-received performance of George Michael’s ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’ – says Josh “Song choice was key this time, and I wanted to show I could handle a big song under pressure."

Josh’s agonising wait for the judges’ scores and audience votes paid off, however - “I didn’t know how many of us would go through, so this feels like such an achievement. When I was leaving the Concert Hall, people I didn’t know were stopping me and telling me that they had voted for me which was an amazing feeling”.
Josh’s training at LIPA 4:19 proved crucial through the weeks of practise he put into his preparation, and will certainly help him prepare for the national final later in the year. In the meantime, he is also busy performing at charity functions for The Nantwich Christie Support Group and The Joshua Tree, as well as his regular slot at The Cheshire Cat, in Nantwich. Josh is also delighted to have been asked to co-host the Chart and Chat Show on local station RedShift Radio with Charlotte Birch. “I feel so lucky that all this is happening for me, I love singing and the fact that it is bringing me so many different opportunities is unbelievable.”
